CRS Work in Georgia
Recognizing that ongoing injustice and conflict in the region are largely dependent on the quality of governance and the ability of citizens to meet their own basic needs, CRS supports programs in peacebuilding, advocacy, and civil society development. CRS works exclusively with partners in Georgia to implement development programming designed to strengthen local organizations through partnership in order to promote transformative social change through civic participation and advocacy.
Project Example
- South Caucasus Youth Councils Initiative: This program helps communities learn to identify and resolve issues within their own communities by encouraging the development of Youth Councils.
CRS/Georgia Partners With Caritas
CRS Georgia has developed a close working partnership with Caritas Georgia, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Caritas Georgia has cooperated with CRS in the Youth Councils iniative and will also be actively involved in the USAID-funded "Building For the Future" project.
CRS has also supported Caritas Georgia's Youth Computer Center in Georgia, a Caritas-aligned program to advocate for inclusive education in Gori (for the benefit of physically handicapped youth), and renovation of the Telavi Orphanage in Kakheti Region.
